5 Popular Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

5 Popular Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

It’s amazing how a thin composite or porcelain shell can make such a difference in your appearance. Veneers turn a so-so smile into a charming one in just one or two appointments.

Danny Jeon, DMD, offers veneers to cover chipped or damaged teeth, along with many other cosmetic and traditional dental services at Tucker Family Dental in Tucker, GA.

Understanding the process

First, Dr. Jeon matches the shade of your veneers to your surrounding teeth. If you’d like to whiten your teeth, it’s best to do so beforehand. That way, we choose the shade of veneers that goes perfectly with your newly brightened teeth.

Since the veneers won’t change color, it’s important to keep all your teeth in good condition so they continue to blend seamlessly.

How are veneers applied?

Porcelain veneers require two visits, while resin composite takes only one session. Dr. Jeon bonds porcelain veneers using a light-sensitive cement and dental light.

We begin by:

  1. Removing a tiny amount of your tooth enamel
  2. Taking impressions of your teeth
  3. Sending these to a lab to create custom veneers
  4. Adjusting the fit at your next appointment

If you choose resin composite veneers instead of porcelain, Dr. Jeon builds them directly onto your teeth during a single session. However, they’re not quite as sturdy as the porcelain option.

We may apply temporary veneers while you wait for the porcelain ones to come back from the lab.

5 benefits of veneers

It takes only one or two appointments for Dr. Jeon to create your new smile. Your new veneers:

1. Blend perfectly with your natural teeth

The number one benefit of veneers is your beautiful new smile. Dental veneers cover gaps, broken or chipped teeth, and uneven colors. They also improve the look of teeth that are too small or oddly shaped.

2. Resist staining better than regular tooth enamel

Porcelain veneers hold up to wine and coffee stains much better than natural teeth.

3. Don’t require special maintenance

While your veneers won’t need any special attention, we recommend taking good care of all your teeth by flossing and brushing with a fluoride toothpaste at least twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and rinsing with an antibacterial mouthwash.

Schedule regular cleanings and exams to keep your mouth and veneers in the best shape.

4. Possess a long lifespan of 15-plus years

Many people report their veneers are viable even longer and continue to handle daily chewing without losing their color or durability.

5. Enhance your appearance

Their impact goes beyond the physical. Veneers improve the look of your smile and help boost your self-esteem and confidence.

Veneers essentially add a “fifth layer” to your tooth

Although we only see the top layer of our teeth, they actually possess four layers. These include, from outside to inside:

1. Enamel:  a calcified coating even harder than bone

2. Cementum: the tissue beneath your gumline that connects it to your jawbone

3. Dentin

4. Pulp: supplies nutrients to your tooth via nerves, tissue, and blood vessels

Dr. Jeon adds a fifth layer of protection with well-placed veneers.

How to maintain your veneers

Although sturdy, veneers require some attention. Dr. Jeon suggests you:

By following just a few commonsense guidelines, you can keep your captivating smile for years to come.
